Amniotic Membrane Graft (AMG)

Park Avenue LASEK is the only laser vision correction center in NYC, and Dr. Chynn is the only refractive surgeon in NY, NJ, CT or PA who offers AMG, or amniotic membrane graft technology to help you heal faster after your LASIK, SMILE, PRK, LASEK, or epiLASEK (also known as epi-LASIK) procedure.

This is because they were the only center and surgeon credentialed with NYS to offer “fresh” AMG, as there are additional criteria that need to be met to be a recognized “tissue bank.” Recently, they are offering “freeze dried” AMGs, which don’t require refrigeration, so are a more affordable alternative.

AMG is a special biological membrane that’s placed by Dr. Chynn onto your cornea after your LASIK, SMILE, PRK, LASEK or epi-LASIK procedure, instead of a BCL, or bandage contact lens, or instead of nothing (which many centers do, because that’s cheaper and easier for them, but not best for you).

The AMG will serve to protect your surgical surface and allow it to heal without pain or scarring, and will gradually dissolve over the course of a week. At your 1-week postop visit, any residual AMG will be removed by the surgeon.

The great thing about AMG is most medical (not vision) insurance plans pay up to $1500 per eye for it, and we are the only center that is credentialed with medical insurance companies. As a big favor, we will then credit what we get from your insurance towards your surgery. So you will pay less for your procedure, if you require more specialized techniques to help you recover!

If you have a history of dry eyes, or RES (recurrent erosion syndrome), or had prior eye surgery including LASIK or PRK and had prolonged healing, you should have AMG.
