Cauterizing Blood Vessels

Remove Visible Blood Vessels for Clearer, Whiter Eyes

Tired of red, visible blood vessels in your eyes?

If your eyes always look red, bloodshot, or irritated, eye drops may only provide temporary relief.

For some patients, Dr. Emil Chynn can permanently treat selected surface blood vessels using a specialized cauterization procedure.

If you’ve been living with chronically red eyes, there may be another option.

Who Is a Candidate?

You may be a candidate if you have:

  • Eyes that always appear bloodshot
  • Visible red vessels that never go away
  • Cosmetic concerns about eye redness
  • Chronic irritation associated with enlarged vessels
  • Dry eye disease contributing to redness

Not every red eye requires cauterization.

A consultation determines whether treatment is appropriate.

Why Do Blood Vessels Become Visible?

Many people notice enlarged blood vessels after years of:

  • Dry eye disease
  • Chronic irritation
  • Allergies
  • Contact lens wear
  • Previous eye surgery
  • Environmental irritation
  • Sun and wind exposure

Sometimes these vessels never completely disappear on their own.

How Blood Vessel Cauterization Works

The procedure seals selected surface blood vessels that contribute to chronic redness.

Treatment is performed in the office using specialized equipment.

The goal is a healthier, clearer-looking eye while addressing the underlying cause whenever possible.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can blood vessels in the eye be removed?

Selected surface blood vessels can often be treated when they cause chronic redness or cosmetic concerns.

Is the procedure permanent?

Many treated vessels do not return, although new vessels may develop over time depending on the underlying condition.

Does cauterization treat dry eyes?

Not directly. If dry eye is contributing to redness, treating the dry eye itself is often an important part of long-term success.

Is this cosmetic or medical?

It can be both. Some patients seek treatment because of appearance, while others have irritation or chronic inflammation associated with enlarged blood vessels.

Will my eyes look whiter?

Many patients notice a clearer, less bloodshot appearance after appropriate treatment.
