Lacrifill for Dry Eye in NYC
Longer-lasting relief – WITHOUT daily drops! 🙂
Tired of putting in eye drops all day? Lacrifill will help! It’s an FDA-approved, in-office treatment for Dry Eye Syndrome (DES). It helps your eyes hold on to their own natural tears.
At Park Avenue LASEK, your Lacrifill treatment is done by Dr. Chynn, a famous eye surgeon who has been featured on CNN and Discovery Channel! Park Avenue LASEK is the only center in Manhattan where the eye surgeon himself will perform your Lacrifill–not a “tech” or optometrist.
Park Avenue LASEK is the #1 laser vision correction center in the NY Tri-State Area when it comes to carefully evaluating and treating Dry Eye Syndrome before your LASIK, LASEK, Smile, ICL or PRK, without which you won’t achieve your best possible vision. We have been offering Lacrifill for over a year, and have over 100 happy Lacrifill patients.
What is Lacrifill?
Lacrifill is a soft gel made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that your body already makes (and is the jelly-like substance that makes up a rooster’s comb). The gel is squeezed in your tear drainage punctum, or hole, to block the drain of your eye–so your tears drain away slower. That keeps more moisture on the surface of your eye, because you don’t “waste” the tears that you make—instead, you retain them!
What patients tell us
- It doesn’t hurt.
- It works better than eye drops.
- It lasts longer than punctal plugs.
How is it different from punctal plugs?
Traditional plugs come in set sizes. They can fall out or feel irritating. Lacrifill is a gel, so it shapes itself to your anatomy. No sizing is needed. It more fully blocks your tear drainage hole.
Who is a good candidate?
Lacrifill is a strong option if you still have dry eyes after trying:
- Artificial tears
- Restasis
- Xiidra
- Tyrvaya
- Punctal plugs
It’s also a good fit for patients before or after LASEK, LASIK, Smile, ICL or other eye surgery, especially cataracts.
How we test for dry eye
We carefully examine and test your eyes in three different ways, at the same visit:
- Schirmer’s test to measure how many tears you make
- Tear break-up time to see how long your tears stay on the eye
- Fluorescein staining to spot dry areas on the surface of the eye
What happens during the procedure?
- We numb your eye with a drop.
- Dr. Chynn gently places the gel in the tear duct.
- It takes just a few minutes in the office.
- There is zero downtime. You go right back to your day.
How long does it last?
Lacrifill is designed to last up to six months. We guarantee it. If the effect doesn’t last a full six months, your re-treatment is free.
How much does it cost?
- $500 per eye
- $900 for both eyes
Lacrifill is self-pay. Insurance does not cover it; there is no “code” to bill out Lacrifill.
Dry eye and laser vision correction
Healthy tears matter before and after surgery. Dry eye can affect your measurements and your healing. We use Lacrifill before surgery, after surgery, or both. It can be part of a plan to optimize your results after LASIK. Do not choose any surgeon who doesn’t carefully examine and treat Dry Eye Syndrome before LASIK or Smile, as they are not being careful!
Lacrifill vs. Punctual Cautery
Lacrifill lasts six months, then must be re-inserted, because the gel dissolved.
Cautery lasts longer than Lacrifill–usually 1-2 years. This is why cautery is more expensive ($1,000 per eye). Cautery hurts for about 10 seconds; Lacrifill doesn’t hurt at all.bea
That’s why we recommend Lacrifill first. It lets you see how you feel with your tear ducts blocked. If you like the results, cautery can be your next step.
