How Much Does Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Treatment Cost?
Many patients with dry eye symptoms discover that the underlying issue is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), a condition where the oil glands in the eyelids become blocked or dysfunctional.
Advanced in-office treatments can help improve gland function, reduce inflammation, and improve tear quality, especially when combined with proper evaluation and gland expression.
Patient Question
“What is the approximate cost for treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)?”
“
Dr. Chynn’s Answer
Our advanced MGD/Dry Eye treatment for both eyes is approximately $2,000, which includes machine-based therapy combined with gland expression personally performed by Dr. Emil Chynn.
One of the most important parts of MGD treatment is proper evaluation and expression of the meibomian glands after treatment. At Park Avenue LASEK, every patient is examined directly by an eye surgeon, not delegated entirely to technicians or non-physician staff.
Before recommending treatment, Dr. Chynn performs a full medical eye examination to determine the severity of gland dysfunction, inflammation, tear quality, eyelid health, and contributing dry eye factors.
In many cases, the office consultation itself may be covered by medical insurance, depending on your plan and diagnosis.
Why Proper Evaluation Matters in MGD
Not all dry eye is the same.
Some patients primarily have inflammatory dry eye, while others have blocked meibomian glands, evaporative dry eye, blepharitis, or a combination of conditions. A customized evaluation helps determine whether advanced gland treatment is appropriate and whether additional therapies may also help improve symptoms.
