Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Park Avenue LASEK
During my time at Park Avenue LASEK, I got to learn and train on all aspects of Refractive Surgery, management of patient’s pre and post op, doing surgery, dealing with demanding patients, and handling challenging situations. I enjoyed working there, interacting with staff, colleagues, and patients. Dr Chynn is a great mentor with tons of experience that he gained over the past 25 years doing exclusively refractive and corneal surgery. You’ll learn a lot from him if you are open to learning. We did extreme prescriptions (ranging from -15 to +6 diopters) and many patients that were told aren’t good candidates for any laser vision correction surgery and got them to 20/20 and better. We also did corneal tattoo’s and combined surface ablations and crosslinking for patients with keratoconus and pellucid marginal degeneration which is only done by few surgeons in the world. Dr Chynn always cared about education and sponsored my trip to the ASCRS meeting. I even got the chance to do research, publish a paper, and present a poster at one of the meetings. He insists on the fellow attending these meetings to always stay up to date with advances in refractive surgery. At Park Avenue LASEK, one should be proactive, eager to learn, take criticism as means to improve, and do research activities as there are many opportunities to do so. Even though Dr. Chynn is a strict boss in the office, he is a friend and fun to be with, outside the office. We have
