Dear Dr. Chynn,
with this letter I am applying for an observership at Park Avenue Lasek. My name is Dr. Julia B., I am 30 years old, I am from Germany and I am currently working as a final year resident at the Eye Clinic of Johannes Gutenberg University Hospital in Mainz, Germany, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Norbert Pfeiffer. Over the past five years, I have had the opportunity to work under excellent supervision in various subspecialties with special interest in corneal disease and surgery, oculoplastic surgery and, of course refractive surgery. Thanks to my mentors, I have the opportunity to assist in numerous surgeries, in particular penetrating keratoplasty, DMEK, DALK, DSAEK, and have already performed some myself such as DMEK preparation, amniotic membrane transplantation, pterygium surgery, various eyelid surgeries, etc. Unfortunately, the focus of our university clinic is not on laser assisted refractive surgery. As you are an internationally recognized expert in refractive surgery and have published several articles and book chapters, I would be honored to accompany you and your team in your work and learn from you.
From October 2022 till March 2023, I will have the great opportunity to join my husband on a work trip and will reside in New York City before completing my residency in Germany. Since my special interest is in the field of refractive surgery, I would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain new experience from your expertise and would be really pleased to be accepted as a visiting fellow in your department for a period of 1-2 weeks (e.g., October, November, December 2022 or February, March 2023).
I would be very pleased to hear from you.
Kind regards from Mainz,
Dr. Julia B.
