Understanding the Differences

Presbyopia Treatment with Eye Drops in NYC
At Park Avenue LASEK, we’ve always focused on providing the safest and most advanced techniques to help our patients see clearly without glasses or contacts. If you’re over 40 and struggling to read menus, texts, or books up close, you may be experiencing presbyopia—a natural age-related change in vision. While we continue to offer permanent solutions like custom LASEK surgery to correct near and distance vision, we’re also proud to now offer a non-surgical treatment option for presbyopia: Qlosi™ eye drops.
Qlosi™ is the first FDA-approved, preservative-free prescription eye drop specifically designed to improve near vision by temporarily reshaping your pupil for better focus—no surgery, no recovery time, and no interruption to your lifestyle. It’s a great option for patients who aren’t ready for laser vision correction, or who simply want a flexible way to reduce dependence on reading glasses.

What Is Presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a common condition that typically starts to affect people after age 40. It’s caused by a gradual stiffening of the eye’s natural lens, which makes it harder to focus on close-up objects. You might notice symptoms like:
- Difficulty reading small print without holding things farther away
- Eye strain or headaches during near work
- Increased reliance on reading glasses or bifocals
Presbyopia isn’t a disease—it’s a natural part of aging. But that doesn’t mean you have to live with it.

Non-Surgical Option: Qlosi™ Eye Drops
Qlosi™ (pilocarpine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 0.4%) works by temporarily reducing your pupil size to increase depth of focus—similar to how a camera aperture works. This lets you see nearby objects more clearly, often within just 20 minutes of use.

Benefits of Qlosi™:
- FDA-approved and preservative-free
- Fast-acting, with effects lasting up to 8 hours
- Single-use vials for hygiene and ease
- No downtime, no surgery
- Can be used once or twice a day as needed
Qlosi™ is ideal for patients with mild to moderate presbyopia who want to minimize or eliminate their need for reading glasses without committing to surgery. It can also be used in combination with LASEK for patients with distance correction who are still struggling with near vision.

Surgical Option: LASEK
For patients who prefer a more permanent solution, we offer LASEK—a no-cut, surface-based laser procedure that reshapes the cornea to improve both near and distance vision. Unlike traditional LASIK, LASEK avoids creating a flap, making it safer for patients with thin corneas, dry eyes, or active lifestyles.
In some cases, we can even tailor one eye for near and the other for distance vision (a method called monovision), giving you full-range vision without glasses.

Which Option Is Right for You?
Every eye is different. At your consultation, Dr. Chynn will perform a thorough evaluation of your vision, lifestyle, and goals to help you choose the best solution. Whether that’s Qlosi™, LASEK, or a combination of both, you’ll get a personalized treatment plan designed around your needs—not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We also accept most medical insurances (excluding Medicaid), and financing is available for both Qlosi™ and LASEK procedures.

Why We’re the Most Advanced Center for Presbyopia Treatment in NYC
Park Avenue LASEK has a long-standing reputation as the most advanced laser vision correction center in the NY Tristate area. We were the first in the city to treat keratoconus with corneal crosslinking (CXL) years ahead of FDA approval, thanks to our IRB status—Institutional Review Board approval that allows us to legally offer cutting-edge treatments before they’re widely available. That same spirit of innovation drives our approach to treating presbyopia.
We began offering presbyopia treatment with eye drops before FDA approval—through a special “magic drop” only available at Park Avenue LASEK. Today, that treatment is FDA-approved and known as Qlosi™. Patients who’ve used Qlosi™ often find they can comfortably read books, menus, and their phone screens without glasses in good lighting. In low light or when reading very small print, readers may still be helpful—which is exactly what your personalized trial will help determine.
We also accept most medical insurances (excluding Medicaid), and financing is available for both Qlosi™ and LASEK procedures.

We Work with Most Medical Insurance Plans
Just give us a call at (212) 741-8628 and let us know you’d like to be evaluated and treated for presbyopia. In many cases, your medical insurance may cover both the evaluation and the treatment, since presbyopia is considered a medical—not just a vision—condition. While coverage can vary depending on your provider and plan, our staff will be happy to check your benefits and help guide you through the process.
If you don’t have insurance or if your plan has a high deductible, the cost for your evaluation and treatment with Qlosi™ is just $500—a simple, one-time fee that includes everything you need to get started with this breakthrough non-surgical solution.

NYC’s Most Innovative Laser Vision Correction Center—Without the Cutting
At Park Avenue LASEK, we don’t perform LASIK. We don’t even perform PRK anymore. We offer LASEK—a safer, non-cutting procedure that improves both distance and near vision—and now, Qlosi™, a non-surgical option for those seeking flexibility.
