Warm Compress and Lid Hygiene for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) Downloadable PDF
Park Avenue LASEK, New York’s only non-cutting LASEK center, provides a comprehensive treatment guide for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), a leading cause of Dry Eye Syndrome (DES).
Treatment Overview:
Hot Compresses & Massage: Use a very hot washcloth or tea bag to warm and massage the eyelids, helping liquefy and release clogged oil from the glands. This must be done a minimum of 5 times daily to avoid surgical intervention.
Shampoo Scrub: After using a hot compress, apply baby shampoo to a washcloth and gently scrub the eyelids to remove secretions.
Fish Oil Capsules: Omega-3 supplements, like Retaine OM3, help improve oil consistency. Park Avenue LASEK offers a specialized formula at a reduced price.
Doxycycline Pills: This medication helps thin the gland secretions to allow proper oil flow, reducing tear evaporation. Be cautious of sun exposure while taking it.
Avenova: A lid hygiene product preferred by some patients. If not covered by insurance, Park Avenue LASEK offers it at a reduced cost.
